What does HP’s purchase of Palm mean?
April 29th, 2010 by steveThis week, HP bought Palm.
What does that mean?
- It means HP wants to be a contender in the smartphone market.
- It means HP doesn’t want to be a slave to Microsoft.
- It means HP isn’t smitten by Windows Mobile 7.
- It means HP doesn’t think that the iPhone and Android phones have that market sewn up.
It means options for the consumer.

It also means HP likes to gamble.
Maybe it will work out better for Palm than it did for DEC when Compaq bought them.

How did it work for Compaq when HP bought them? Or am I not remembering that correctly?

Competition, yes…but when was the last time you heard anyone even talking about Palm? I didn’t think they were in existence anymore.
And I’d never recommend HP to anyone…personally.
